AgoraDebate monitor Ten places to one team

Covering the election used to take ten people in ten places, and now a smaller team covers every debate.

The ask

CNN Brasil and Rádio Itatiaia cover the 2026 Brazilian election: dozens of debates and sabatinas, their own and the ones Band, Folha and UOL run. The two newsrooms announced the partnership with HomoDeus on 28 August 2026. A quote in the wrong candidate's mouth is an error in election coverage under two national brands.

“The best thing artificial intelligence can do for journalism is give time back to the journalist. [...] What used to take ten professionals in ten different places is now covered with the same editorial rigor by a smaller team, without losing quality.”
CEO, CNN Brasil

Knowing which video is the event is the hard part.

The feed lies

A channel posts dozens of cuts a day. Promos, reaction streams and a commentary show called “O Grande Debate” carry the word debate as often as a debate does. The real Band debate once sat at position 183 of a channel's feed three days later.

Where it starts

Feeds open hours early. Three of four presidential feeds opened at 18h for a 20h debate. Two independent AIs read the feed and cut only where they agree.

Capturing it

Capturing the real feed is its own fight: platforms block automated access and bury the live event in look-alikes. Getting it clean cut the cost of each debate by roughly 90%.

A verbatim quote can still be in the wrong mouth.

The error

The words are in the transcript, so a plain check passes. Early on, about one quote in twenty landed on the wrong person. Being named is not being present: a candidate attacked in the third person was handed the attacker's lines.

The gate

A name stays on a line only when two independent AIs agree on who spoke, each pointing to the exact words. A second read confirms who the transcript shows in the room. The step only removes a name, it never adds one.

Nothing reaches an editor untested, with no one watching at 3 am.

The final read

A final pass reads the assembled page and holds it on any claim it cannot cite. On its first real use it caught a commercial break spliced inside the cut that every earlier stage had passed.

The journalist stays in command.

On air

The piece is drafted while the interview is still live. Cuts arrive with their source, so a quote is checked before it is published. The summary of each block is ready about three minutes after it ends.

Never alone

Editors choose what to publish. The agent never publishes on its own; a piece goes out only when a person sends it.

The count

By late October the Monitor on CNN Brasil had covered 329 debates and sabatinas across the election, every candidate's presence confirmed, and not one quote put in the wrong mouth.

What took ten people in ten different places now takes one smaller team, with the same editorial rigor.

No newsroom can watch every channel at once. The agent watches all of them, live, and has the cut drafted before the segment ends, every quote in the right mouth.
